About Me

Hi and welcome! I am a California native, raised in San Jose. While attending BYU-Provo, I was charmed by an Idaho farm boy named Rick Hawker. We married in the Oakland Temple and settled in San Jose (later moving to Morgan Hill) to raise our family. Having spent many years as a stay-at-home mom to my great kids (two sons and two daughters), I went back to school and graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Communication Studies from San Jose State University.

I've been an instructor at San Jose State for nearly 25 years and have also taught at Santa Clara University and at Evergreen Community College. Courses I taught: Argumentation & Advocacy, Critical Thinking & Decision Making, Communication and Human Relationships, Public Speaking, and Writing for Influence. I've also taught "Strengthening Marriage and Family" through LDS Social Services.

In May of 2019, I retired and moved to Utah. My children are all married, and I love being a grandmother to four granddaughters and three grandsons. I take great joy in being a mom, grandmom, and wife to a wonderful man.
